I made it! Today is my birthday and I am now 48. Yay! Getting older is great. I know most people would not agree but when you are faced with the inevitable prospect of not reaching a ripe old age then it changes your perspective somewhat.
I am going to keep this short. It has been a while since my last post so I just wanted a brief update to let you know that I am still here. The steroids that I am taking have helped and although I do get very tired and my legs are still constantly tingly and very weak, I am able to keep food down and get up and out when necessary. In fact, we had a lovely little family holiday in Brighton over the weekend. No the weather was not great but our hotel had a sea view and a swimming pool and Charlie was happy to stay in and swim every day. I partook of the sauna and we also went to the pier and to Sea Life. It was lovely seeing Charlie so happy and getting to spend quality time with the family.
I am about to go out for afternoon tea with Neil to celebrate my birthday. So yes, I am abandoning the healthy eating for today. I had an egg with smoked salmon for breakfast and will be having sandwiches, tea and cake for lunch. And I will enjoy it!
My digestion is still not quite right after the radiotherapy so I have not managed to get back onto my full diet and supplements but I am still mainly eating vegetable soups. Juices are harder for me to stomach. I don’t know if I will go back to my diet but have a consultation with my integrative oncologist tomorrow.
I am really looking forward to my birthday party on Saturday and am hoping that the steroids and excitement will give me the energy to get me through. There is always the worry at the back of my mind that my legs will go completely, but I am taking one day at a time and right now that day consists of yummy food. Which I am going to go eat now.
Yours in health and cake
